Tau aggregation inhibitors in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases
Understanding the mechanism of tau aggregation, propagation and cellular machineries involved in aggregated tau degradation would help in understanding tauopathies (Alzheimer’s disease, PSP, CTE, FTLD, etc.) and other neurodegenerative diseases. The thesis is focused on identifying small molecule inhibitors of tau misfolding and aggregation using in vitro assays and cell line models. This involves in vitro aggregation assays, evaluation using biochemistry and microscopy techniques. The compounds which inhibit the aggregation and propagation of tau will be potential drugs against tauopathies.
