Modernization And Expansion Of The Instrumental Equipment Of The National Center For Medical Genomics

Project acronym: NCLG II
Project title: Modernization And Expansion Of The Instrumental Equipment Of The National Center For Medical Genomics
Project registration number: CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/18_046/0015515
State funding provider: Ministry of Education Youth and Sports
Programme: OP VVV
Start date: 2020-01-01
End date: 2022-12-31
Principal investigator: Srovnal Josef M.D., Ph.D.

The purpose of the NCLG is to ensure the operation of the most modern sequencing platforms and related technological devices for the analysis of the human genome and to enable the qualified use of these technologies in biomedical research and translational medicine in the Czech Republic. Localization and at the same time partly different specializations of individual laboratories are a guarantee of territorial and sectoral development and use of genomics in the Czech Republic in accordance with world trends. The subject of the project is the expansion and modernization of NCLG's existing instrumentation. Within the framework of the previous call No. 02_16_013 from OP VVV, individual partners were equipped with equipment and, above all, a new NovaSeq 6000 sequencer was acquired. This device uses sequencing methods of the new generation and enables the processing of a large number of samples at a lower operating cost. To prepare the measured samples and, above all, to properly archive the obtained results, strengthening of other equipment is also necessary, such as robotic systems for sample preparation, capillary DNA sequencer, NSG sequencer and data storage and computing servers. A number of devices currently used in the workplace have been used for several years and at the time of the planned implementation of the project will be technologically outdated, and a number of these devices do not allow working with the results obtained using the new generation sequencing method. The main goal of the presented project is to maintain a functional system of mutual cooperation and effective use of both existing technologies and modernized instrumentation in the Czech Republic and their involvement in international activities in the field of genomics, using the database of genomic variability of the Czech population.
