The Experientia Foundation donates 1.000.000 CZK to fight coronavirus

The Experientia Foundation joins the IOCB Tech initiative and donates 1.000.000 CZK to Czech scientists to fight coronavirus. Money from a private foundation founded by scientists Mr and Mrs Dvořák will be equally distributed between two Czech workplaces: Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine Faculty of Medicine, Palacký University in Olomouc and Think Tank IDEA at CERGE-EI as part of the research agenda 'IDEA anti Covid-19'. Both of them have been devoting their new methods for SARS-CoV-2 testing and solving related interdisciplinary issues in recent weeks without financial support.

"We felt an urge of a civic duty to contribute to the fighting against coronavirus.  After consultation with the coordinator of academic workplaces for coronavirus testing doc. Jan Konvalinka, we clarified where our support will be most needed and thus we will send it there as soon as possible," say the founders of the Experientia Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Dvořák.

Part of money donated by the Experientia Foundation will be send to the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine of the Medical Faculty of the Palacký University in Olomouc. The team of Marián Hajdúch, M.D., Ph.D., is currently working on the development and optimization of diagnostic methods related to sample preparation for COVID-19, and on understanding the molecular basis of resistance of younger individuals to coronavirus infection. "Understanding this phenomenon will allow us to identify at-risk individuals in the population, and possibly, we can use this knowledge for targeted pharmacological intervention that will increase the resistance of seniors to this infectious disease," explains Marián Hajdúch, M.D., Ph.D.
