Marián Hajdúch, Director of IMTM spoke on DVTV about the dangers of alcohol. He emphasized that alcohol is linked to a higher risk of cancer and is, in fact, responsible for a wide range of diseases—particularly cancers of the oral cavity and digestive system. Even small amounts, he warned, can increase the risk of breast cancer in women.
“People often have no idea that alcohol is linked to a higher risk of cancer. In reality, it’s responsible for a large number of diseases—primarily cancers of the oral cavity and digestive system. But even a single shot of hard liquor increases the risk of breast cancer in women,” says Marián Hajdúch. He agrees that warnings should appear on alcohol bottles. Labels alone won’t change things—measures need to be comprehensive. However, politicians shy away from unpopular steps, even when they’re in the public’s best interest.
