Zdeněk Škrott receiving the prestigious ERC-CZ grant

Congratulations to our colleague, Zdeněk Škrott on receiving the prestigious ERC-CZ grant.

ERC-CZ is a national funding programme designed to support frontier research—excellent, high-impact research that advances the boundaries of scientific knowledge. The programme is intended for projects led by internationally recognized Czech researchers that were highly rated by the European Research Council (ERC) but could not be funded directly by the ERC due to budget limitations. ERC-CZ therefore helps foster research excellence in the Czech Republic while strengthening the ability of Czech institutions to succeed in international scientific competition.

The funded project, “MICROTHERM – Elucidating Cellular Proteostasis through a Unique Platform for Subcellular Microthermal Protein Damage,” focuses on the field of proteostasis, which encompasses the mechanisms by which cells recognize and process damaged proteins. By employing a completely novel experimental approach, the project will provide new insights into the early cellular events that determine how cells respond to damaged and aggregated proteins. These findings will contribute to a better understanding of biological processes that play key roles in both neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
